Hello Quenda Counters,
With spring just around the corner, now’s the time to start counting quendas!
WWF-Australia and the WA Department of Parks and Wildlife are once again running the Spring Quenda Count. The Count is a ‘citizen science’ survey to help monitor quenda population numbers and distribution within the Perth and Peel regions. (If you are not based in this region but are interested in taking part, data from other areas in WA is still valuable.)
The survey runs from September 1st until November 30th, 2014.
To participate, simply choose a survey site (approx. 50m by 50m) and follow the instructions on the data sheet attached to this email.
(I have also attached an example of a completed data sheet for your reference.)
We would be extremely grateful if you are able to help us collect this important information.
We know you are busy, so we stress that you don’t need to do the full 7 day survey – just whatever you can manage over a consecutive 7 day period; anytime during the months of September to November.
Please note: zero counts are important too! We need to know if quendas are disappearing from their former sites. So we still need your completed data sheet, even if you didn’t see any quendas during your 7 day survey period.
Feel free to distribute this email and the attached data sheet to anyone who may be interested.
Please return your completed data sheets by November 30th.
If you have any queries about the methods or the data sheet, please contact [email protected].
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!
Rebecca Boyland
