A BRIEF HISTORY OF WANDI PROGRESS ASSOCIATION & TIME LINE

1988   Public meeting (arranged by Paul Chapman) held at Mandogalup Hall to form the Wandi Progress Association (elected - President: Barney Kristensen, VP Bruce Heather, Ann        McMurdo, Treasurer: Colin Emmott, Secretary: Sue Doust.  Committee:  Trish Mayes, Rod Cocks, Jamie Doust, Brenda Westcott, Christine Axton, Valerie Large, Alex Wyllie, John Ronson, Trisha Pember. 

           First WPA Newsletter published
           The first Wandi Fair held

1989     First Wandi Warbler issued
             Mining licence (sandmining) obtained for Wandi Nature Reserve  

1990     Town of Kwinana challenged over rural rating system  

1991     Bushfire affecting properties in Magenup, Lyon, Bodeman Roads
             Kwinana Freeway extended from South St to Forrest Rd (now  Beeliar/Armadale Rd)
             Fencing of Lot 33 Liddlelow Road (now De Haer Rd).

1992     Opening of Magenup Equestrian Centre (01/08/1992)
              Wayne Carter announced the winner of the WPA logo competition

1993      Sandmining proposal stopped
              Money granted by ToK for playground equipment
              Community tree planting

1994       Kwinana Freeway extended from Forrest Road to Thomas Road with traffic
               lights at intersections. (11/09/1994)
 

1995       Wandi Hall was officially opened (18/02/1995)
               Wandi Playgroup commenced
               Rabbit shooting on the Public Open Space  

1998       Opening of tennis courts

1999        Wandi Clubrooms officially opened
                Gateways Shopping Centre opened (March).

2001        Overpasses replace traffic lights on Kwinana Fwy south of Forrest   Rd.                       

2002        Kwinana Freeway extended south from Thomas Road to Safety Bay Road.

2004        175th Foundation Day celebration, flag raising, time capsule, tree planting 
                on De Haer Rd boundary (grant) 07/06/2004
                 Dispute over horse licence fees resolved
                 National Diabetes Study (follow up survey)
                 Relocation of HVPS from Hope Valley to Wandi (17/12/2004 at 5am)

2005         No Fair held this year.
                 Bowra & O’Dea – first memorial grove planted at Magenup Lake
                 Finalization of the subdivision arrangements for larger lots in Wandi
                 (process took 3 ½ years)

                 Community bring and buy sale  

2006         The last Wandi Fair was held (01/04/2006)
                 Ocean Broadband available in Wandi
                 Opening of the Wandi Resource Centre (formally HVPS) (18/11/2006)  

2007          Cockburn Gateways Shopping City – second stage in development opened.                    (October)
                   Perth to Mandurah train line opened (23/12/2007)
                   Wandi Hall becomes a registered evacuation centre  

2008           BBQ installed at the Resource Centre
                   Smithy’s Gym commences
                   Website started
                   Interpretive signage installed around Lake Magenup
 
2009           Extension to Shed first discussed
                   Earthworks commenced on the Honeywood Estate
                   Chuditch found in Wandi – first in Perth for 20 years
                   Proposed installation of an electricity substation at Rowley/De Haer Roads.
                   Pigface removal in Wandi Nature Reserve  

2010           Clean Up Australia Day (07/03/2010)
                    At AGM Rod Cocks awarded life membership of the WPA  

2011           Clean Up Australia Day (06/03/2011)
                   Western Power advised that development of substation Rowley/De Haer 
                   Road
not to proceed.

                   Community tree planting (14/05/2011)
                   NAB corporate treeplanting (14/06/2011)
                   First residents move into Honeywood
                   National Diabetes Study (follow up survey)
                   Last printed issue of the Warbler delivered to all Wandi residents  (Dec)  

2012           First electronic issue of the Warbler distributed to Wandi residents (March)

2013          Awarded the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award
