LAKE MAGENUP WALKTRAIL
A walkover by community members and Wandi Landcare Group mid 2005 became the start of our first informative walk trail, this group was instrumental in setting out our walk trail around Magenup Lake. They were assisted by Green Skills at the time and a grant was sourced to fund the venture. Time took its toll on the signs, with vandals damaging some and the elements doing the rest. So in 2020 began the task to rejuvenate the trail with new updated signage giving walkers an insight into the area.
A grant was sourced from Water Corp. and with the assistance of the City of Kwinana new signs based on the degraded ones were developed. A contractor assisted with the making of the new signs and their installation with a variety of local volunteers supplying the sweat digging holes and concreting. The Landcare Group have done a great job completing the project and we all hope it will be an asset to be enjoyed by nature lovers using the trail.
SO WHERE IS THE TRAIL?
To find the WELCOME sign park in the main limestone carpark in front of the Magenup Equestrian Centre, please leave your car here and locked. If horses are using the area keep your distance and allow them to carry on with their activity.
Walk along the north boundary heading east shaded by trees and you will see the sign in the distance. The WELCOME sign gives you a map of the Lake site and where the trail goes along with other entry exit points. Remember this is a natural environment and you are likely to come across kangaroos and snakes at the right time of year, don't approach any of these as they can do you harm. Locations of the signs on the trail are marked on the map; a good tip is to take a photo of the sign before you begin allowing a easy reference to where you are. Remember in an emergency you can leave the trail at three exit points that will take you to a road and call for assistance.

The above images give a sample of the signs on the trail with the large sign starting the trail and indicating where it goes, some history of the local area has also been included. A sample of a weather sign is included along with the contactor, Allan and John a volunteer.
All sign frames were removed then new holes dug and concreted in place.
The last task was to install directional arrows along the trail to give walkers confidence in knowing they were on the right trail. Each arrow directs walkers to the next informative sign eventually bringing them back to the start.
Again we need to thank Water Corp. and the City of Kwinana for their assistance because without it the project wouldn't have happened. Credit also goes the Wandi Progress Association who picked up the final cost of the signs and materials necessary for the installation. We even had a local donate the pine post for the direction arrows and photos supplied for reference on local flora and fauna.
Special thanks to the volunteers Les, John, Wayne and Alan for donating their valuable time installing the sign frames and direction posts.
